UPSTAIRS CENTRE STAGE SCHEDULE

ENJOY LIGHT REFRESHMENTS served upstairs right from the kitchen and meet members of the Prescott County District Women’s Institute. Tea, coffee, light treats. Please feel free to take your refreshments to the bistro tables nestled around the upstairs stage area!

10:30 a.m.: Katie McCall will be presenting information on Autism and Asperger’s and the new Family Support Group that has started in our region. Zoo therapist Mélanie Reijmer will be demonstrating the benefits and fun of zoo therapy she does with children on the autism spectrum. She will have a furry friend, either Jazz or Rose, her therapy dogs, along for this bilingual presentation.

11:00 a.m.: Kim Assaly will demonstrate scrapbooking techniques, stencilling and talk about enhancing your home’s decor.

11:30 a.m.: Meet Canadian author Janet Blachford, whose first book, entitled “Rehearsal” was published in 2007. Blachford lives in the region for part of the year.

12 noon: Celebrate Spring! Spring is the perfect time to lighten, brighten and freshen your home and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Here are a few quick ideas to update your decor and inject spring into your home. Presented by Robyn Denis, owner of  Auld Kirktown.

12:30 p.m.: Heart Wise Exercise: Take the steps towards better health! Discover some tips, tricks and advice on how you can reduce your risk of heart disease by becoming more physically active. Find out how you can do it safely, and what you can do in your own community. PLUS: Sign up to learn Nordik pole-walking right outside later this afternoon. Sign-up sheet available at this presentation. Poles available for a maximum of 10 persons! Presented in English, but presenter is bilingual for your questions! Presented by Anna Fuite, MSc, CSEP-CEP, CK — Heart Wise Exercise Program Coordinator, University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

1:00 p.m.: Feng Shui which means Wind and Water, is an ancient study of our personal spaces. Louise Kohnle will talk about how we can adopt these principals and, with intent, and our own personal symbols and intuition, create positive changes or enhancements in the many parts of our lives, from relationships, finances, to health and all other things.

1:30 p.m.: Anann Yassin, Ian Hepburn & Christos Bereris - partners in Vitality Health Team * Equipe sante – will present a talk and demonstration of the therapies they offer: Indian Head Massage & Craniosacral Therapy (Anann) and Vibroacoustic Harp Therapy (Ian & Christos). The presentation will demonstrate how the release of pain and the achieving of well-being can be achieved through their therapies.

2:00 p.m: Nicole Langevin of Nika Paper Arts will create a spring home decor item. . . but always be ready for a surprise! Nicole’s creativity knows no bounds.

2:30 p.m.: Sommelier Jennifer Martel will be on hand to help us all move just a little closer to becoming wine connoisseurs.

3:00 p.m.: A balanced life. When our life is balanced, we enjoy our life to the maximum. Learn to identify the stressors in your life! This session is offered by Ann Ogilvy, RHN and Monica Piotrowski (The Wise Women of Williamstown). Visit: www.thewisewomenofw.com

3:30 p.m.:Come join the circle with Lise Gauthier and find out about the wisdom behind Native American Tarot Cards. Note that Presenter Lise Gauthier who specializes in “Tarots Amerindien”, will present in French only.

4:00 p.m.: The benefits of sprout-growing. Find out about different ways to grow sprouts. Compare one to another. Come try some! It’s a garden in your kitchen all year-round! Presented by Sibylle Aalders, of Sprout Growers.

10:30 a.m.: Taking Charge and Taking Care of Your Heart — Especially For Women! Find out how to be heart-healthy, as you learn about risk factors that make you vulnerable to developing heart disease. University of Ottawa Heart Institute Regional Program Educator Lorraine Montoya will share lots of stories from other women — powerful examples of how tricky it can be to actually focus on taking care of ourselves instead of everyone else and why taking charge of our own health is so important.

11 a.m.: Learn how to breathe. Change your life. Come learn new breathing techniques from Hannah, Certified Yoga Instructor.

11:30 a.m.: Menopause. Find out more with Hawkesbury pharmacist Lise St. Denis.

12:00 noon: Does Breastfeeding Take Too Much Time? by Lyne Lacroix, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant – Free books for first participants. English presentation with bilingual discussion period.

12:30 p.m.: Are You Going To Be Ready To Retire? Statistics show that women save 40% less to retire than men do but yet they live longer. Presented in English by Theresa Wever, CFP, CIM Certified Financial Planner.

1:00 p.m.: K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, stupid!) 10 easy ways to destress Now! A dynamic presentation by  Nancy Galway, owner of Snow Angels Sanctuary.

1:30 p.m.: Do you think you need to lose weight? Meet Herbal Magic owner Claudette Tinkler and hear some weight loss tips.

2:00 p.m.: Breast cancer…avoid the “booby trap”! Learn about natural breast cancer prevention, as well as about a safe medical alternative to mammograms. Presented by Dr. Anouk Lepage-Chaumont, Doctor of naturopathic medicine.

3:30 p.m.: Knowledge is Power – learn to recognize the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer. Don’t stay in the dark, knowing could save your life! Presenters: Monica Baker, Ottawa and Louise Duval Febrile, Hawkesbury.

10:30 a.m.: Marie-Josee Clermont from TriCycle will be speaking about how fashion can offer a second chance at employment to unemployed women striving to find a new beginning. TriCycle is a non-for-profit organization that uses recycled fabrics and accessories to create new inspirations. TriCycle combines environmentalism and recycling with educating women on new work skills.

11:00 a.m.: Ayurvedic Medicine with Alison Logee.  The art of Ayurvedic medicine allows us to reclaim our youth & re-energize our bodies. It is an ancient practice from India now available to you locally. Alison will touch on natural ways to energize the body, delay the process of aging and prevent disease by bringing balance, happiness and timeless energy back into your life.

11:30 a.m.: Maybe it is time for us to explore politics in our communities! Marilissa Gosselin, Ontario PC candidate for Glengarry – Prescott – Russell in this year’s provincial election. Marilissa will present a bilingual talk about how improving our quality of life can be achieved by getting involved in local politics, from community associations to organized political parties

12:00 noon: Womenly Friends: The Importance of Friendships in Women’s Lives. This presentation will look at the ways that women’s friendships contribute to our mental health & well being. Presented by Brenda Bettridge, who is a clinical and consulting psychologist with a rural practise in our community.

12:30 p.m.: Healing Energy Therapy can help the body to realign itself and come back to balance, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It can be used to bring Joy and Inner Peace back into our lives. It has great benefit for both people and their animals.  Sandy Meredith is a Healing Energy Teacher/Practitioner.

1:00 p.m.: Meet Julie Bourgeois, the Liberal candidate for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell. Julie will talk about her decision to enter the local political scene. How easy is it for women to enter politics?

1:30 p.m.: Energize, empower and claim your life! Intuitive Energy Therapist Joni Elbourn will tell you how in this inspiring presentation.

2:00 p.m.: How do the media affect our children? Come and find out. Melissa Hatch will highlight how the media influences our children and their quality of life. Note: This presentation is in French only.

2:30 p.m.: How do you know if you are in a healthy relationship? OPP Constable Christine Labelle will give a straight-ahead talk about today’s relationships. This presentation will be in French and in English.

3:00 p.m.: Preventing Elder Abuse. Speaker: Sgt.Jean-Marc Michaud, Sûreté du Québec, Division de la prévention de la criminalité.

3:30 p.m.: Eyelash extensions. Dermo-pigmentation – also known as permanent make-up. If your morning is a make-up marathon, maybe these options are for you. Presented by: Tanya Lanthier, of Tikki.

4:00 p.m.: Why women need to invest and Yes! You can learn to love it! Presented by Jeffrey Quenneville of Raymond James Ltd.

Presentations will last about 20 minutes and speakers will answer questions at the end for about 5 minutes. Feel free to visit with those speakers who have exhibitor booths at Yes, Women Can! Attend presentations on a first-come, first-served basis.
