The next YES WOMEN CAN! event will be held on April14, 2013!

The Ontario Community Newspaper Association (OCNA) awards gala was held on Friday, April 27, during which The Review won first place in the Community Service category for its “Yes Women Can!” event.

Writing about “Yes, Women Can!”, judges commented, “The Review sinks person power and money into its Yes Women Can! event… Tangible benefit for young female scholarship winners and financial and spirit spin off within the community…”

The Review captured second place in the Canadian Community Newspaper Association (CCNA) Outstanding Community Service (circulation up to 9,9999) category for the Yes Women Can! Event!

The Review is a 117-year old community newspaper in Eastern Ontario and when we are not putting out a newspaper, our staff loves organizing community events!

Yes, Women Can! took place on Sunday, April 17, 2011. We had 66 exhibitors plus 12 selected artisans (selected by juried selection) who offered choice goods, services and information, 12 speaker and 36 demonstrations that ALL focus on women’s quality of life! The show took place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

LADIES! This show was for YOU. Many came and enjoyed a day out with friends. Met incredible women. Lived! Laughed! Learnt!

PINK CARPET SHOWCASE was NEW addition in 2011: Some of the region’s best food vendors were on hand right on the main floor near our show area to offer a variety of lunch choices! People enjoyed lunch at a cozy bistro table and watched a fashion shows, dance demonstrations, self-defense and more!

 

TICKET WERE PURCHASABLE IN ADVANCE ONLY!

There was a Grand Prize FAB FOUR trip to New York City! (Value $1500.00)

Everyone who purchases a ticket to ‘Yes Women Can’ was eligible to win a FAB FOUR trip to New York City for them and three of their friends! Maximum of 1,500 ballots (one per ticket holder).

ALSO NEW IN 2011: Two new speaker areas upstairs featuring experts on women’s issues: everything from time management, finding your positive energy, menopause, travel tips, managing stress, yoga and much more! PLUS ONE DEMONSTRATION AREA UPSTAIRS to provide demonstrations in a relaxing atmosphere.

In 2011:

The Review, which is the organizer of Yes, Women Can! sharedproceeds of this event as follows: FIVE SCHOLARSHIPS were presented to young women pursuing post-secondary studies in one of the following areas: business, science, the environment, social sciences or the arts.

IN 2009, a cheque for $5,000 was donated by Yes, Women Can! to the Champlain Recreation department for the Mill Street splash park for kids. The splash park was completed in 2009 in Mill Street Park, thanks to a partnership of Champlain Township and the Vankleek Hill Horticultural Society volunteers. It is conveniently located right next to the Vankleek Hill Community Centre.

Yes, Women Can! is happy to acknowledge ,for our 2011 show, the major sponsorship support of Hillcrest Funeral Home and Pottery Lane Imports.

The Vankleek Hill Fiddle and Dance Association is providing us with volunteers to ensure that parking at the show runs smoothly all day. Thanks to these volunteers for making our show better!

Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute Principal Jeff Campbell and the Upper Canada District School Board have allowed Yes, Women Can! the use of the high school parking lot for additional parking space for exhibitors and visitors!
